European Commission to build a data center in space
One of the most important issues facing the world today is climate change. But considering the risks, many countries have yet to take action. Although the United States is more vocal about this, six of the 10 companies that have an adverse effect on the climate are located there. However, the European Commission (EC) is giving importance to the issue.
The European Commission (EC) is considering reducing the impact of data centers on climate change. As part of this, the company has expressed interest in setting up data centers in space. Also, ways to mitigate the environmental impact of high-performance computing facilities are being sought.
According to reports, the EC is considering launching a data center in space. For this reason, the organization has carried out a feasibility study called ASCEND (Advanced Space Cloud for European Net zero emission and Data sovereignty). It is a part of the Horizon Europe program of the European Union (EU).
The data centers will run entirely on solar power. It will provide hundreds of megawatts of electricity. Data centers in space will be connected to Earth through the use of optical communication methods.
